Educational Therapy
Whether your student is in high school or college, educational therapy offers a dynamic approach to their specific learning needs. Educational therapy is different from traditional tutoring, it is a relational model that provides a safe space for clients to engage in the learning process, identify strengths, and become lifelong learners. As an educational therapist, I collaborate with all members of my client’s team including parents, psychologists, psychiatrists, pediatricians, guidance counselors, teachers, and other allied professionals. The collaborative nature of my practice promotes academic and social-emotional wellness.
My practice focuses on working with students including high school through college and those pursuing postgraduate degrees.
As an educational therapist, I am trained as an educator with knowledge of how underlying learning disabilities and mental health concerns impact the academic process. This background affords me the opportunity to tailor a student’s learning plan to their individual needs. I collaborate with a student’s team to provide wrap-around support, so everyone is moving towards the same endpoint.
Transitioning from one academic year to the next is difficult for many students. Challenges arise when the material becomes more complex, and a student’s confidence is undermined activating the learning challenges. Collaborating with students, we work to develop study and executive function skills, learn to tackle independent learning tasks such as homework and projects, and identify resources available to support a deeper understanding of the curriculum being delivered.
The goal is to promote autonomy so students can navigate the academic landscape confidently and independently. I actively reinforce therapeutic goals such as encouraging accountability and ownership of behavior.
